James Lawson Eason, 56, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away unexpectedly at his home, Friday February 26, 2010. Born August 14, 1953, in Champaign, Ill., he was the son of Lenton Edgar and Edith (Stephens) Eason. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Lenton Eason II, and two very special friends, Bryce Reynolds and John Salters. Surviving are his spouse, Gail Vassmer of the home; three children, Christopher James Eason (Lora) of Grain Valley, Mo., Brian Thomas Eason (Amber) of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Elizabeth Jane Eason of Kansas City, Kan.; his mother, Edith Imhoff of Gladstone, Mo.; one sister, Sharon Stockton of Gladstone, Mo.; four stepsisters; one stepbrother; four grandchildren, Franklin Ray Pfifer, Destany Nicole Eason, Reisa Lynn Eason and Austin James Eason, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family and many friends. James was a 1971 graduate of North Kansas City High School. He continued his education at various colleges with a degree in water and waste water pollution, as well as other environmental degrees and licenses. He was employed with Certain Teed Corporation in Fairfax, Mo., for 32 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Excelsior Springs and the Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and doing yard work, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and his family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Elizabeth Eason College Fund, c/o National Bank of Kansas City, 2380 Vintage Court, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024.
